Patricia Velásquez
Creativity goes beyond film, pictures,
or canvas. It can also be an inspiration for philanthropy and charity and also
activism. Patricia Velasquez, an award-winning actress, history-making model,
staunch philanthropist and conscientious activist, and a mother who is devoted
to her children, brings a constant creative spirit to all she does regardless
of whether she is starring in blockbusters such as The Curse of La Llorona or
launching the Wayuu Taya Foundation, and being as a member of the UNESCO Board.
She relies on her intuition and creates her own path, making great strides. She
states, "I see my career as a long ladder." "I have taken every
step. It was incredible to do so, since there has been longevity. I didn't stop
moving, just kept my head down. The metaphor directly resembles a formative
experience. The author was born in Venezuela but growing up in France and
Mexico after which she moved to Venezuela after a couple of years. In South
America her parents worked in education. They relocated their family into an
apartment that was without water and had no elevators. Patricia took 15 steps
up using heavy buckets in order to provide water to the unit. She tried to help
her family as much as she could despite pursuing engineering as well as pursuing
a dance education. The opportunity to model was offered to her in Milan, the
multi-talented model's rise to the heights of the fashion world was contingent
on a promise made to the people she loved. She remembers being asked to travel
to Italy by the fashion industry. "If I could afford to send thirty
dollars per month to Venezuela, it would be worth it because that will be
enough to cover the cost of all the water used in the structure."
Patricia's accomplishment was a significant change in fashion in that she
gained attention for South America for first time. Patricia was able to make
headlines when she became "the first model Karl Lagerfeld ever
photographed" and later, she walked in shows, be a part of editorial
spreads, and advertisements for front pages of Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana,
Fendi, Chloe, Cover Girl, and Victoria's Secret to name just a few. The world
was abuzz with her presence, she appeared on Oprah and Ford Models'
"Supermodel of the World" contest as well. The covers of her book
also appeared of Vogue, Bazaar, Marie Claire and a host of other magazines.
