Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 she is an American retired artistic gymnast. She was a two-time Olympian. She was captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams. Both won their respective teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London, she won gold medals in the floor and team competitions along with the bronze medal for the balance beam, which made her the most well-known American gymnast in the Games. She was awarded the gold medal in the team competitions at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas, her teammate, also received gold. Raisman also earned silver in the individual all-around and floor exercise. She is the 3rd most accomplished American gymnast in Olympic history behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles and has won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a member of the gold-winning American teams in the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist from the world championships in floor exercise in the year 2011. She is also two-time champion of the national team on floor exercise (2012 in 2012 and in 2015) as well as the 2012 champion of the national team on the balance beam, as well as five times medalist in the all-around at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2011 and 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber who was an ex-high school gymnast as well as Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994 in Needham. She has three siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction from being able to not only represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community all over the world. "Raisman began gymnastics when was 18 months old. She attributes her initial love for the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold medal-winning U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics and whose performance she watched on VHS.She was a student at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through the level 8 stage, when she transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012 after having completed her senior year through online classes while training to compete in the Olympics.
